ASI beaten up, nine booked

The Sadar police have booked nine persons for allegedly assaulting an assistant sub inspector (ASI), who had intercepted the accused at a check point on the 88 feet road here late Tuesday evening. One of the accused was identified as Balbir Singh alias Beera, a resident of Lakshami Vihar. No arrest has been made so far.

ASI Sawinder Singh in his complaint to the Sadar police said that he along with police party was present at a checkpoint. During checking of vehicles they signalled a bike to stop, who was coming from the Gora market side. He said the accused entered into an argument with him and head constable Kirpal Singh, and called their accomplices on the spot. They slapped the ASI and tore his uniform. The accused beat him with a baseball bat and fled.

The police registered a case under Sections 186, 353, 332, 427, 148, 149, 506 of the IPC and raids were on to nab them, said investigation officer Harbans Singh.
