Essential items for victims

A section of city residents, led by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) general secretary Bikram Singh Majithia, on Wednesday flagged off relief material meant for the families of victims of the gruesome train tragedy.

Majithia said the relief material consisted of grocery items, like wheat flour, sugar, salt, vegetable oil and other essential items.

He said majority of the victims and injured were labourers. “So they have not been able to join their work all these days and traumatic experience may not allow them to resume their work soon.”

He said free of cost education in schools, colleges and even medical aid would be provided to the needy of the unfortunate accident.

On behalf of traders and industrialists, he assured them that jobs would also be provided to those required.
