Failing to trace gangsters, police paste their posters

Hoping to get credible information regarding wanted criminals and notorious gangsters Rajat Malhotra, alias Karan Masti, and Shubham Singh, the police have pasted their posters at every entry and exit point of the city, toll plazas, outside police stations and police posts besides prominent public places across the state.

Masti and Shubham Singh have been on the run and the police are finding it difficult to get information regarding their whereabouts. Recently, they had robbed jewellery worth crores of rupees from a noted jeweller in Guru Bazaar in the walled city. The market is famous for gold and artificial jewellery.

The investigation regarding their whereabouts has drawn a blank so far. Both have been members of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Bobby Malhotra gang.

They are also wanted in the murder of Congress Councillor Gurdeep Pehalwan, who was shot dead at Gol Bagh Akhara. They have over a dozen criminal cases, including robberies, murder and attempt to murder against them.

Masti had slipped away from the police custody when he was brought to a local court for hearing in January this year. He was also behind Rs 33 lakh robbery from a jeweller in Guru Bazaar in May this year. He along with his accomplices had robbed a bank in Hoshiarpur last year.

Shubham has been on the run since September 2017. Six armed men got him freed from the police custody at Rayya bus stop after shooting an ASI in his leg. The cops were escorting the gangster to the Amritsar court from the Kapurthala jail for hearing. They were travelling on a Punjab Roadways bus.

The police also announced suitable rewards for providing information regarding the two gangsters. The posters pasted at various locations show the phone numbers of senior police officials, including DCP (Investigations), ADCP (Investigations), ADCP City-I, ACP (Investigations) and other concerned police officials.
