Forensic team at mishap site

A team of Forensic Science Laboratory, Mohali, on Wednesday visited the railway tracks near Joda Phatak where the tragic train accident had occurred, claiming 58 lives besides leaving several persons injured on Friday evening.

They were accompanied by the members of the special investigating team (SIT), formed by ADGP, Railways, and other officials.

A police official, wishing not to be named, said the forensic team also checked the diesel multiple unit (DMU) passenger train that knocked down the revellers on the fateful evening. The DMU has not been pressed into service since the incident. It has been parked at the Attari railway station. It will remain there till the completion of the probe.

The SIT, headed by GRP AIG Daljit Singh Rana, is yet to record the statements of the victims of the tragedy. It is yet to take the record from the police. “We will start it soon as the probe is in its initial stage,” said the official.
